Neurological  surgery Department:

Neurosurgery department of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences was established as an independent department in 1985 with collaboration of our respectful pioneers; professor Dr. Alireza Birjandi & Dr. Gholamreza Amir-Sheybani.Now a days,this department is the largest one in the east of Iran and consists of 11 neurosurgery academic staffs (4 professors, 2 associate professors and 5 assistant professors), 2 national board members and 5 academic staffs who are subspecialized in majors including stereotaxis, neurovascular, neuroendovascular and spine. Approximately 3000 neurosurgery operations such as neurotrauma, brain tumors, neurovascular surgeries, endoneurovascular, spine and peripheral nerve, skull base, neuroendoscopy, stereotaxis, and pediatrics are annually performed in three independent centers in this department.

 Until now, 70 residents have been graduated from our department and they're working throughout the country.

Three independent departments of neurosurgery providing services for patients are located in three educational centers of university including Ghaem hospital, Shahid Kamyab Emdadi hospital and Akbar Children hospital and five Neuro ICUs .

Neurosurgery department of Mashhad accepts 5-6 residents each year who are taught rotationally in aforementioned centers. Our department is equipped with active microneurosurgery laboratory. Also, educational programs have been designed to promot assistant scientific level.

Clinical skills laboratory  of the university and clinical research development centre of Qaem hospital are two centers that cooperate with our department in the fields of education and research.

Setting up of some training fellowship programs for the majors; spine , and endoneurovascular surgery; is an upcoming goal of the Department of Neusurgery of the Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in the near future.
